ASSISTANT GUIDING MANAGER / FULL TIME

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a full-time Assistant Guiding Manager.

MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES

Operating Season

Assist the Guiding Manager with, or in the absence of the Guiding Manager, be directly Responsible for all aspects of guiding operations including, but not limited to the following:

  • Oversee all guiding staff and work directly with helicopter crews
  • Ensure proper remuneration and record keeping for guides
  • Ensure the expected level of guest service delivery is consistently provided by your team
  • Assist with performance reviews for the guiding team
  • Recommend projects as they relate to the guiding program
  • Recommend projects for the operation as a whole
  • Recommend mountain development including glading, roads, fuel storage, cabins and other projects and products
  • Ensure guiding operations reflect accepted Environmental Best Practices
  • Ensure Mica Heliskiing meets or exceeds the standards and guidelines required of us by government agencies, Work Safe BC, HeliCat Canada, the CAA, the ACMG and Mica Heliskiing as they relate to the mountain program
  • Participate in regular department head and long term planning meetings
  • Take a leadership role during staff training sessions
  • Take a leadership role in communications amongst staff and with guests during our operating season
  • Remain current as to the changes, challenges and practices of companies outside of Mica and of the industry as a whole

Year Round Roles

Assist the Guiding Manager with the following:  

  • Tear down post operating season
  • Pre-season set up
  • Hiring, and training of guiding staff
  • Planning for upcoming season, including equipment, staffing and documentation requirements
  • End of Season Guides Performance Reviews
  • Off Season Projects as outlined and discussed in off season project list

LEAD GUIDE RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety

  • Responsible for all aspects of safe, efficient daily operations of the Mountain Program
  • Responsible for efficient use of helicopters
  • Responsible for communication of ski program package details to Mountain Team and Lodge Manager
  • Ensure the Mountain Team meets or exceeds the standards as set out by Helicat Canada, ACMG, CAA, WorkSafe BC, and Mica Heliskiing
  • Comply with and enforce all company rules and guidelines
  • Remain on-site at the operation during the ski day
  • When possible, be in charge during emergency situations
  • Take the leadership role when communicating with guides and pilots, to ensure a continuous awareness of changing mountain conditions
  • Be responsible for creating and revising guest group lists.  Guiding teams must be chosen to provide maximum safety and the best guest experience 
  • Provide formal supervision and mentorship to each Ski Guide, Assistant Ski Guide, and Trainee Guide working each day
  • Maintain good communication between the Mountain Team and guests
  • Ensure delivery by the Mountain Team of Safety Briefings meets the company standard and timelines
  • Fulfill the assigned transfer day duty

Guest Services

  • Work directly with the lodge manager in a leadership role with regards to staff and guests during daily operations
  • Take the leadership role and maintain good communication between the Mountain Team and guests
  • Act as the lead coordinator during down days, with assistance from all other departments
  • Deliver guest welcome speech, and farewell speech.
  • Take leadership role in any Guest Relations issues related to Mountain program
  • Ensure guest service level is consistent to company standards

Specific Administrative Duties

  • Ensure that each guest and staff member has properly completed a Waiver of Liability prior to participating in Mountain Activities
  • Be responsible to ensure all record keeping is completed to Industry and Company standards
  • Be responsible for the proper completion of Company and WorkSafe BC Incident Report forms
  • Ensure completion of all Guides Whiteboard tasks           
  • Facilitate pre-transfer day meetings with Lodge Manager to confirm logistics, roles and responsibilities for exchange days
  • Facilitate and contribute to daily Guides Meetings 
  • Be main point of contact for guiding team with phone calls, email for daily correspondence

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years management experience
  • Minimum 5 years heliskiing Lead Guide experience
  • Minimum 10 years Ski Guiding experience

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • ACMG Ski Guide, or IFMGA Mountain Guide with membership in good standing
  • CAA Avalanche Operations Level II or International Equivalent
  • Current Advanced (80hr) First Aid, CPR/AED
  • Current Binding certifications (Salomon/Tyrolia)

REMUNERATION

  • Salary/Wage: $65,000-$70,000 per year
