Summary

We are looking for a full-time, year round Maintenance Technician based primarily at our remote backcountry lodge north of Revelstoke, BC. 

The position follows a shiftwork-based schedule, with shift lengths varying between winter heliskiing operations (mid-December to mid-April) and the off-season (mid-April to mid-December).

Job Description

As a Maintenance Technician at our remote heli-skiing lodge, you’ll play a key role in the smooth operation and upkeep of our facilities. This position involves scheduled maintenance, equipment replacement, participation in improvement projects, and supporting day-to-day operations as a collaborative team member.


Your responsibilities will include maintaining and repairing lodge infrastructure, equipment, and vehicles, along with general facilities upkeep. You’ll work closely with the Maintenance Manager, lodge management, and fellow team members to ensure high standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction are consistently met.
 

General Skills and Capabilities

  • Experience: Previous experience in maintenance, preferably in a hospitality or remote lodge setting.
  • Techical Skills: Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems and general building maintenance. Carpentry considered an asset.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to troubleshoot and repair issues with mechanical infrastructure, machines and equipment.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Capability to quickly assess and resolve maintenance issues to minimize disruption to lodge operations.
  • Safety Approach: Work and operate in a safe manner at all times.  Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to ensuring a safe environment for guests and colleagues.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to work in a remote, outdoor setting and ability to handle diverse maintenance challenges.
  • Team Player: Capacity to  collaborate effectively within the Maintenance Team as well as lodge management, guides, and other staff members to meet lodge operational needs.
  • Communication:  Ability to communicate, engage and work productively with all team members, staff and guests.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Physical Fitness: Good physical condition to handle the demands of outdoor work, lifting, and manual labor in varying weather conditions.
  • Driving/Operating Skills: Valid driver's license to operate lodge vehicles and equipment, a pleasure craft operators’ ticket for operating lodge boat. Some experience with heavy equipment operation. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Maintenance Manager to ensure smooth day-to-day Maintenance Operations, and that all necessary maintenance, upkeep and repair of equipment and facilities are scheduled, performed and recorded.
  • The successful operation of all lodge services and utilities (Water system, electrical generation and distribution, sewage and wastewater systems, fuel systems and general lodge equipment).
  • The scheduled maintenance and repair of these systems following Mica’s service intervals.
  • Record keeping of all scheduled maintenance and repairs.
  • Record keeping of fuel levels in tanks, following Mica’s dip schedule.
  • Advising Maintenance Manager of any potential issues that could impede operation and provide a suggested approach to eliminate these potential issues.
  • Advise Maintenance Manager of any upgrades and suggest improvements that will help improve Mica’s operational period.
  • Performing work required to complete approved upgrades/improvements.
  • Coordinate general maintenance on lodge facilities with Hospitality/Lodge Staff.
  • The operation and maintenance of all equipment on site in a safe manner, following Mica’s SOP. Equipment includes but is not limited to small engines; fuel pumps; water pumps; power tools; kitchen and laundry equipment; Hot tub pool maintenance and cleaning equipment/ Chemicals; Chainsaws and brush saws; generators; Snowmobiles; Quads; 4x4 Trucks; Boats; Snow cats.
  • Work directly with other department and staff as needed.
  • Working directly with contractors brought in to perform specific jobs.
  • Maintain a healthy and productive work environment within the maintenance team.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized shop, hanger, and surrounding Lodge/Shop area.
  • Maintaining access to all building entry ways and fuel tanks, clearing walkways and brushing/clearing roadways and landings. 
     

Winter Specific Operations

  • Working directly with management from all other departments to ensure their departmental equipment is working correctly. Work with them to determine timelines for repairs/service. 

  • Work with other departments as needed to support them in the successful delivery of guest experience.  Ex: work with Lodge Manager/Guiding team to ensure a smooth guest transfer on transfer days.

  • Plow and groom all roadways, walkways and heli pads with the snowcat. 

  • Perform daily checks on main lodge systems and keep an up-to-date log of daily observations. 

  • Ensure all guest concerns regarding room repairs, lodge repairs etc. are performed in a priority level fashion. 

  • Assist in planned activities during down days to ensure a day program is put together.

  • Assist in guest meet and greet as needed.

  • General participation in staff training and scheduled departmental orientation sessions. 

  • Participate in regular staff meetings while up at the lodge.

  • Ensure good relations are maintained with company contacts and contractors.

Education / Certification Requirements

  • Boat operation experience with a pleasure craft operators’ ticket.
  • Heavy Equipment/Snowcat Operation Experience.
  • Valid drivers license with standard transmission experience
  • OFA 3 an asset but not required.
