ASSISTANT GUIDING MANAGER

 

OVERVIEW

We are looking for an Assistant Guiding Manager.

The Assistant Guiding Manager is a key leadership role within the Mountain Program. Working closely with the Guiding Manager, this position helps oversee and lead the safe, efficient, and high-performing delivery of our heli-ski operations. This year-round role requires exceptional leadership and communication skills, strong operational and administration management skills, deep technical expertise, and a commitment to our company values.

CORE COMPETENCIES

Leadership & Guiding Operations Management

  • Provide strong daily leadership within the Mountain Program and support the Guiding Manager.
  • Perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, maintaining strong organization and the ability to coordinate and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Supervise, coach, lead and mentor guides, fostering growth, accountability, and alignment.
  • Perform and support administration and HR duties including hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, scheduling, and HR functions. 
  • Lead Guides Meetings when required.
  • Lead or support emergency response coordination.
  • Manage operational planning, equipment readiness, and seasonal preparation.
  • Oversee pre-season setup and end-of-season tear-down.
  • Foster teamwork, communication, and adherence to company values.
  • Work closely with company management and leadership on operational functions and leadership tasks. 

Guest Experience Leadership

  • Model and uphold the highest standards of guest service excellence, engaging guests as well as supporting other departments in service delivery.
  • Deliver welcome and farewell speeches and guest briefings.
  • Support down-day programming and guest engagement.
  • Resolve guest concerns with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of luxury guest experience. 

Administration, Regulatory Compliance & Organizational Management

  • Ensure guiding operations meet ACMG, CAA, HeliCat Canada, and WorkSafeBC standards.
  • Oversee documentation, waivers, incident reports, and operational records.
  • Be an integral component of Mica’s Risk Management program and approach.
  • Manage guest group lists, transfer-day logistics, and communication flow.
  • Maintain effective communication with pilots, lodge teams, and company leadership.
  • Contribute to long-term operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Digital & Communication Competencies

  • Advanced proficiency in InfoEx, including data interpretation, timely submission of observations, and translating snowpack trends into operational guidance.
  • Highly skilled with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for preparing reports, documentation, planning tools, and interdepartmental communication.
  • Effective use of Asana for project and task management, including planning, assigning, tracking, and reporting on off-season and operational workflows.
  • Exceptional professional communication across email, phone, radio, digital platforms and text, ensuring clarity and operational accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate operational decisions clearly in fast-paced or high-pressure situations while maintaining calm leadership.
  • Strong cross-departmental communication abilities supporting alignment with pilots, lodge operations, guest services, and leadership.
  • Ability to create, refine, and enforce communication standards within the guiding team to ensure professionalism and consistency.

Detail Oriented

  • Maintains impeccable attention to detail in all aspects of operations.
  • Ensure accuracy in documentation, safety procedures, equipment checks, and guest information.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively, and precisely.
  • Upholds precise execution of daily operational requirements.
  • Demonstrates thorough planning, communication, and follow-through.
  • Supports a culture where details are critical to safety and guest experience. 

Mountain Guiding & Snow Safety Expertise

  • Guide safely and professionally in complex mountain terrain.
  • Conduct terrain evaluation, snowpack assessment, and hazard mitigation.
  • Lead or assist in avalanche rescue and field emergencies.
  • Support or lead components of the Snow Safety Program.
  • Maintain efficient and safe helicopter operations. 

CERTIFICATIONS

  • ACMG Ski or Mountain Guide in good standing
  • CAA Professional Member in good standing 

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years as a Heli-Ski Guide
  • 5 years as a Lead Heli-Ski Guide
  • Demonstrated team leadership, supervision, and mentorship experience
  • Experience collaborating with helicopter pilots, lodge operations, and multi-department teams

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Year-round availability.
  • Must be fully flexible with scheduling, including working during Christmas, New Year, and other peak guest-demand periods.
  • Participation in off-season planning and project work (Asana).
  • Comfortable working long days in challenging winter mountain environments.
  • Suited for a lodge-based, rotational work environment.
