As we look forward to welcoming you back to Mica this season, we want to make you aware of changes to travel requirements and protocols that may affect your travel to our lodge. Travel is different this season and it is important for all of our guests to ensure they understand the current processes in place for arriving and departing Canada.

Please read the following information and connect with us if you have any questions. We are here to make every step of your journey to Mica as seamless of an experience as possible. We do strongly recommend guests consider purchasing travel insurance, should there be any last minute trip cancellations due to illness or other travel interruptions. For specific coverage questions, please contact our preferred provider Lifestyle Financial

***The most recent Government travel updates for international travellers to note:

If you’ve already had COVID-19 and recovered you can provide proof of a positive COVID-19 molecular test when crossing the border, instead of a negative one. The test must have been taken at least 11 and no more than 180 days before the initial scheduled departure time of your aircraft to Canada. You must still be fully vaccinated (two doses) by government approved vaccines.

The following information will be covered on this page:

  1. Arrivals to Canada
  2. Departures from Canada
  3. Testing Options
  4. Travel within Canada
  5. Helicopter options for flying direct to Mica
  6. Hotel and accommodation
  7. Tips for completing the ArriveCan form to enter Canada

ARRIVING IN CANADA

  1. We are strongly recommending that guests fly into Kelowna, as discussed further below, for both road issues and helicopter transfer constraints.
  2. When entering Canada you must provide proof you are fully vaccinated.
  3. You must submit your vaccination details to ArriveCan prior to departing for Canada. Scroll down for our step-by-step tips to fill out the ArriveCan form.
  4. You will be required to have the results of either a negative Covid-19 molecular test or proof of a previous positive Covid-19 molecular test result taken between 11 and 180 days prior to your entry date to Canada. The NEGATIVE test must be taken within 72 hours of your entry to Canada. (Note that PCR test results take longer to process than antigen tests. Please ensure you take the test early enough to allow time to get the results back before travelling. If available, we highly recommend booking a rapid PCR test as we have been hearing of lengthy waits for regular PCR test results which have been affecting travel plans).
  5. All fully vaccinated travellers who have been anywhere but the United States or Canada within 14 days of arrival to Canada are now required to be tested at the Canadian airport in which you land and are required to self-isolate for up to 72 hours while you await the results of your test. This arrival testing requirement is in addition to the pre-entry molecular testing requirement. *If you are travelling with a previous positive test you are not required to take this on arrival test. It is your responsibility to ensure that all entry and testing requirements are met before arriving at Mica. Mica will not provide refunds to guests who choose to proceed with Mica bookings, but fail to meet these new entry requirements for non- U.S. International travellers.
  6. You must meet these requirements regardless of whether you are travelling to Canada by land or by air.
  7. Please note that Mica will not issue refunds for guests denied entry to Canada. For our 2021/22 Booking and Cancellation Policy please refer here.

If you need more in depth information on vaccination and travel requirements to enter Canada, please visit the Government of Canada website.

DEPARTURES FROM CANADA

Americans travelling by air:

The United States government requires you to have either of the following:

  1. A negative COVID-19 test, taken within one calendar day of your flight’s departure to the United States. Passengers can take the test at any time during the day before their flight. Calgary Airport and Kelowna Airport are both offering rapid Covid tests by reservation. See recommended testing options below.
  2. Proof of a positive COVID-19 viral test on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure from a foreign country, and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel.

Americans travelling by land:

  • A Covid-19 test is not required at United States land border crossings.

Non-American International Travellers:

With requirements all slightly different for European countries, we recommend checking with your local government's requirements prior to travel. Here is a travel resource to support worldwide international travel this year.

TRAVEL WITHIN CANADA

  1. Make sure to carry a mask, your proof of vaccination and valid government issued photo ID if you plan to travel in Canada prior to, or following, your trip to Mica.
  2. If you plan on driving to Revelstoke from Calgary or Vancouver, please be aware that there are significant road closures this winter on Highway 1. Up to date information can be found here.
  3. Mica is requesting that all Canadian guests, or guests that have been travelling within Canada for longer than three days, take a rapid covid test prior to arrival at the lodge. We can facilitate this test in Revelstoke upon request.

HELICOPTER OPTIONS FOR FLYING DIRECT TO MICA

We are happy to arrange helicopter charters direct to Mica Lodge. As opposed to previous years, our primary charter options are from Kelowna Airport (YLW).  This is due to a change in providers for transfers.

Charter options are also available from Calgary at a significantly higher cost. We anticipate being able to add Calgary back as an option at a lower cost in subsequent years.

For more details and pricing, please contact our reservation staff.

HOTEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS

We are pleased to offer guests of Mica Heli preferred rates at hotels in Kelowna and Revelstoke. We strongly recommend you book your accommodation as soon as possible in anticipation of high demand.

Book your accommodation and view our preferred rates here.

TRAVEL DELAYS

Ongoing government screening procedures implemented in response to the global pandemic have increased travel and processing times for international travel. We have heard of numerous instances of travelers missing connections in Calgary and Vancouver, please have a back-up plan.

We strongly recommend you arrive at your pick-up location the night before your scheduled arrival to Mica to ensure you are able to make your transfer into the lodge.

As a remote lodge, we have a tight window for transfers and guests who arrive late may not make their transfer into the lodge on their scheduled transfer day. Additional transfers required to accommodate guests who arrive late will be at the expense of the guest.

TIPS FOR COMPLETING THE ARRIVECAN FORM:

  1. You can fill out the ArriveCAN form before having your molecular test results.
  2. You will need to upload a copy of your vaccine to the ArriveCAN site.
  3. You can only begin the ArriveCAN form less than 72 hours before arrival.
  4. The molecular test must be taken within 72 hours before arrival.
  5. When you fill out the ArriveCAN form it asks if you have a molecular test in your possession, they are asking if you WILL have test results when you cross the border, so click yes. You do not upload the test results to ArriveCAN, only your vaccine.
  6. When you fill out your destination or other address information, use the full address of Mica Heliskiing (207 Mackenzie Avenue, Revelstoke, BC V0E 2S0), as the border officer cannot submit the form unless the address has a numerical address.

Travel Resources:

Mica Heliskiing will continue to monitor the entry and exit requirements and keep this fact sheet updated throughout the 2022 season.
